Unit Lesson and Evaluation

  "First you gotta do it, then you teach it, and then you learn.
A day you don't learn something, that's a dead day."

Unit check list

  1. The essential elements for each unit are:
    1. Students will understand the importance of safety and what the general and specific issues are for the unit they are studying.
    2. Students will understand how to operate the equipment in the shop.
    3. Students will create a product of personal utility.
    4. Students will know the names of the tools, their parts and the materials they are using.
  2. The essential skills are:
    1. Correct selection of tools and materials
    2. Correct use of tools and materials
    3. Identify steps to properly execute unit assignment.
    4. Evaluate results and know how teach the fundamentals to others.
  3. The final exhibition:

1.        Students will work in groups of 4

2.        Students will review safety and unit information in textbook.

3.        Students will do lab projects outlined for each unit or create their own projects pending teacher approval.

4.        Students will use projects created during the lab portion of the class to present their unit exhibition

5.        Students will demonstrate mastery of unit and cover the following areas.

a.        Safety

b.       Vocabulary

c.        Equipment identification

d.       Correct selection of tools and material

e.        Correct use of tools and material including any setup, settings or selections that need to be made

f.         List the steps in the process

6.        Create a poster diagramming the important elements, concepts and safety issues related to your unit.

7.        Use items created during the Lab portion to compare and contrast what constitutes a good project and a bad project.

8.        Students will present their exhibition to the class to teach them the unit for the next rotation.

9.        Students will develop an evaluation tool to assess whether or not the students have understanding of  the unit.
