Lesson Plan Outline
Three main sections

Unit Design (2 weeks)
Students work in teams of 2-4 students and develop a Unit Lesson based on one of 6 metal technologies.

Students become and expert in one of the six units.

Technology Exploration (10 weeks)

Student as teacher and learner
(10 weeks)
Students then teach their unit to the other 5 groups. Each time they teach the unit, the students reflect and refine their unit in order to increase student learning. See "things to do" and SCANS

Application of Knowledge (6 weeks)

Student as a planer
(6 weeks)
Students will use skills learned in class to develop "Master Piece" showing mastery of at least 3 of the 6 metal technologies.

 

Core concept: system design and planning

  1. Essential Understandings:
    1. Students sill understand the importance of safety and what the general and specific issues are for the unit they are studying.
    2. Students will understand how to operate the equipment in the shop.
    3. Students will create a product of personal utility.
    4. Students will know the names of the tools, their parts and the materials they are using.
  2. Essential Questions: How do I....
    1. Correctly select tools and materials
    2. Correctly use tools and materials
    3. Identify steps to properly execute unit assignment.
    4. Evaluate results and know how to teach the fundamentals to others.

Students will in small groups reflect on work done so far and evaluate projects. Things to do
