Computer Tech Lab Program Class Expectations
Altered states of mind are needed in this program. This program is designed to help motivated individuals prepare themselves for the world of work in the Information Technologies asap. It is easily conceivable a motivated student could find full time employment anywhere in the country at $30k plus by participation in this program, supplemented by additional independent study, and passage of a certification exam at the end of the program. (see job descriptions)
With this lucrative possibility in mind, you should see yourselves as coming to work where you will learn your career through a blend of direct instruction, lab work (projects), and field experiences (projects). An apprenticeship where you will be part time employees as well as students, and therefore will be expected to act as though you were professionals in the fields of Information Technology.
Information Technology is a service industry, and therefore you will be evaluated based not only on your technical mastery of the apprenticeship content, but on your customer service skills as well.
The normal pattern of daily class time will be direct instruction to the whole class, followed by class lab work, and then individual project work. You will be expected to complete certain core requirements in each of the 5 threads of the class, while also spending additional hours "inquiring" into career skills that most appeal to you. These inquiry activities will begin with you tackling a proposed project from the instructor's list, or supplying a project that the instructors agree is worthwhile and within the resources and guidelines of the course.
As a large time element of the class is this "inquiry" learning method, and is therefore largely self directed, the instructors need you to provide "proof" of your time and results. This proof needs to be contained in your student portfolio, so that the instructors can review progress when needed, or when you wish to provide a demonstration of your learning.
