In collaboration with home schooling parents, Quillayute Valley School District through Home School Plus+ (HSP+) provides academic and enrichment classes for home school students.  HSP+ provides classes for K-12, by contract classes, on-site classes, and through Insight School of Washington.

Students meet with highly qualified teachers on-site for classes or for their contact time appointment.  The parents and teacher work together to create a Student Learning Plan that enhances the education of each and every student.

In 1990, Diane Cowles began her teaching career at the Quillayute Valley School District.  She enjoyed teaching second grade for three years.  She then turned to home-schooling her own children. As a result in 1996, Mrs. Cowles began the program Home School Plus and has enjoyed being the coordinator of the program.  Mrs. Cowles not only enjoys teaching, but also traveling to different countries and learning about the culture and the language of those places.  Mrs. Cowles has visited Guatemala, El Salvador, Bolivia, China, Indonesia, Kenya, and Mongolia.  When she is not teaching or traveling, Mrs. Cowles likes to spin wool, crochet rugs, create movies with her own video clips, but most of all spend time with her family.

In addition to Home School Plus+ Rex Weltz is the princial of Forks High School and has been on staff with Quillayute Valley School District since the 2009 - 2010 school year. Previously, Mr. Weltz was an school administrator in Alaska.

HSP+ offers many ways to enhance your child’s education. 

1) One way is for them to take just one class. There are contract classes, on-site classes, as well as Insight School of Washington.

2) Another way is to enroll full time as a contract student, where the curriculum and the assignments can be provided by the teacher and your child studies at home.  Then you and your child will meet with the teacher for one hour a week to go over what was learned, for tutoring, and or testing.

3) Or any of the combination of these two.

4) Your child also can enroll in any public school class, provided there is room in the class for them. 

Enrollment Procedures

1) Download a registration form, and  Immunization form, These can also be or pick up a registration packet from the Quillayute Valley District Office Fill these out.

2) If your child is currently enrolled in one of the district schools, then a request for transfer form needs to be filled out.

3) Make an appointment with the principal, Mr. Weltz by calling 374-6262 est. 356.  Hand in your paperwork and discuss possible enrollment in HSP+
