The
mission of Quillayute Valley School District, in
partnership with the community, is to respect and
meet the diverse needs of all individuals in a learner-centered
environment. Use of effective technology and successful
teaching strategies will result in students with
positive self-esteem, an appreciation for a lifetime
of learning and the ability to become competent,
productive citizens.

of the population is Hispanic or Latino in cultural origins
in Forks. This compares to 3.4% in Clallam County.
40% of the households in Forks had children under age 18.
62% of the houses in Forks were owner-occupied. Nearly 80%
of the adult population had graduated from high school or
the equivalent. 10% of the adult population had a bachelor's
degree or higher. Just over half of the adults were married
(51.6), 12.1% were divorced, and 30% had never married.
13% of the adult population were veterans, compared to
the County's 21%. (Our region has the highest concentration
of veterans in the State).
48% of the population lived
in 2000 in the same house they lived in 1995. 17% of the population had
lived outside of Clallam County in 1995. 90% were born
in the
United States, 10% were foreign
born. Of those foreign born, 86% were born in Latin America,
5% in Europe, 5% in Asia, and 4% in North America. English
was the predominate language being spoken at home (86%),
while nearly 12% of the population spoke Spanish at home.
Of those that reported their ancestry, 28% said "other
ancestry" from those from which one could choose.
16% were of German ancestry, 10% were English, 10% U.S/American,
and 9% Italian. 64% of the adult population were in the labor force. Most
of those working either drove their own car to work (63%)
or car pooled (23%). It took on average 23 minutes for folks
to get to work. Of those working, 18% were
employed in the "ag/forestry/fishing/mining"
industries. Another 18% were in the "education/health/social
services" profession and another 18% were in "public
administration." Another 9% were employed in retail
trade, 8% in manufacturing, and 7% in "arts/entertainment/recreation/accommodation/food
services." 56% of the working population worked in
the private sector, 33% in the public sector, and 11% were
self employed in their own businesses. Median Household income was $34,280 - compared to the County's
$36,449. The City's median household income was about 73%
of the state's. Median family income was $38,844 - compared to the County's
$44,381. 15% of the families in Forks lived in poverty as calculated
by the federal government (approximately $18,000/year in
income for a family of four). 49% of the families with only
a mother as head of household lived in poverty. One out
of every five people in town live on an income that meets
the poverty level. One out of four children live in a household
struggle with incomes that meet the poverty standards. Of the housing structures here in the City, 52% live in
what we would call a single family house, 31% lived in mobile
homes, the remainder lived in some type of apartment type
structure. 82% of the structures were built prior to 1980.
More than half of the population have lived where they were
at prior to 1995. 89% of the population had one or more
vehicles, and 71% used electricity to heat their homes.
In 2000, the median value of homes was $83,500. 70% of the
owners have a mortgage with the median mortgage being $760.
Of those renting, the median rent was $444.
