SETTING  - The time and location in which a story takes place.

POINT OF VIEW  - This is defined as whom is telling the story.   

First Person: The story is told by the protagonist or a character that is very close to the protagonist.  The narrator uses the pronouns I, me, we, & us. 

CHARACTER - The person, animals, or creatures in a story.   

Protagonist: The main character of the story and is at the center of all events.  This character is usually the "hero" of the story.

Antagonist: This character opposes the protagonist.  This character is usually the "bad guy".

PLOT - The plot is how the author arranges events in a story.  It is the sequence of events in a story having a beginning, middle, and end.

a)  Introduction - The beginning of the story where the characters and the setting is revealed.

b)  Rising Action - This is where the events in the story become complicated and the conflict in the story is revealed..

c)  Climax - This is the highest point of interest and the turning point of the story.  The reader wonders what will happen next; will the conflict be resolved or not?

d)  Falling Action - The falling action is the series of events that take place after the climax. The falling action leads to the conclusion.

e)  Resolution - This is the final outcome or untangling of events in the story.

CONFLICT - Conflict is the struggle between opposing forces.

Man vs. Man (Character vs. Character) - The leading character struggles against other characters.

Man vs. Nature (Character vs. Nature?) - The leading character struggles against the forces of nature.

THEME - The author's underlying meaning or main idea that is conveyed.
