Putting It All Together

Toyota Tapestry Grant Work                     March 16, 2004

Tapestry Grant participants met on March 16 to put together what they had been learning so far this year.  How can we best use the science tradebooks to build literacy skills in our students?

  .

What will a coordinated, articulated science curriculum using science tradebooks as a key component look like?  Hard work...lots of ideas!

How does our science curriculum, using science tradebooks, help our students prepare for the state Science testing, the WASL?  Will it increase students' reading and writing comprehension?

Are the state Science Essential Learnings well covered in what we do in our science curriculum?  How can we strengthen science inquiry through the use of science tradebooks?

Excellent results came out of this inservice, with teachers at 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th grade  leaving with an articulated plan for finishing up this year and for starting off next September.

Lots of writing, lots of discussion, lots of difficult decisions...but also lots of good sciencing happening in the future for Forks' students!
