6th Grade Trip
to Woodland Park Zoo
April 26, 2001
The sixth grade classes at Forks Middle School trekked to the Woodland Park Zoo on April 26, 2001 to learn more about animal classification, endangered species and animal behavior. Students studied and took field notes on the different classes of animals they are focusing their studies on, mainly birds, mammals, amphibians and reptiles. For each animal they chose to take notes on, the students classified that animal, wrote down five observable behaviors, described their environment and drew a sketch. Students also gathered up information about endangered species, writing about at least five that they saw. Students will continue these studies back in the classroom, doing further research on an animal of their choice, writing up that research and using the pictures taken at the zoo to help them with this project.
