What is
snowboarding? Snowboarding is a sport that was started in the late 70's. It
requires a snowboard, bindings, and boots. The rider is strapped to the
snowboard and carves down a snowy mountain.
-
How dangerous is
snowboarding? Snowboarding can be as safe or as dangerous as you want to
make it. If you take all the safety precautions and board in control
it can be pretty safe. Pay attentions to all signs and boundaries and don't
do anything you know that will be dangerous and you will probably be ok. *I
am not making and promises* *No matter how safe you are there is
always the possibility of injury and/or death. There is always retards
around*
-
What is the
"responsibility code"? The responsibility code is a set of rules
to follow so that you and others can stay safe on the mountain.
- Always stay in control and
be able to stop or avoid other people or objects.
- People ahead of you have the
right of way. It is your responsibility to avoid them.
- You must not stop where you
obstruct a trail or are not visible from above.
- Whenever starting downhill
or merging onto a trail, look uphill and yield to others.
- Always use devices to help
prevent runaway equipment.
- Observe all posted signs and
warnings. Keep off closed trails and out of closed areas.
- Prior to using any lift, you
must have the knowledge and ability to load, ride and unload safely.
-
Where is
snowboarding not allowed?
- Taos, New Mexico (advertises the
fact aggressively)
- Alta, Utah (The pure SKIING
experience.)
- Deer Valley, Utah (The
snowboarding demographic group doesn't earn enough to ride here.)
- MadRiver Glen, Vermont (They'll
allow boarding after the current owner croaks.)
- Perfect North Slopes, Indiana
(Indiana?!)
-
Why do skiers
always trash talk snowboarders? I
really don't know why they don't like snowboarders. It's always been that
way. When people don't know or understand something they think it's bad and
turn it away. Human nature I guess. But hey, I think it's better this way.
Most of us have heard it
before:
- "Boarders suck, they scrape
off all the snow."
- "They cruise in packs and
scare the women and children."
- "The baggy clothes are used
to conceal weapons of mass destruction."( o yes. That HAS to be the
reason!)
- "They ruin the
moguls."
- "When they carve they leave
deep ruts in the snow."
- "Boarders have an attitude
problem."
- "How does a boarder
introduce himself? Whoa (crash), sorry dude."
- Can't we all just get along?
[--Rodney King]
Maybe not. What then?
